Thanks for the update.
Editing the registry may be your solution...first, try the following
steps...just observe and report your findings.
Go to...Start / Run...
Type > regedit <
Press "Enter"
In your...Registry Editor...click the
+ just to the left of:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Scroll down to: JPEG and left click the folder icon...
In your right pane...what is entered in the "Data" column just to the right of "Perceived Type"?
