Re: Can't open pictures

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Scott,

For the first issue, are you sure there are a couple of dozen jpgs on the
CD? If you open it in Explorer and it shows only 4, then that's all it
sees. You noted you had a problem burning CDs, is it possible that only 4
images got burned to that CD? Also, what happens when you take that CD to
another computer? Are only 4 images seen by Windows? Also, try opening a
command prompt in Windows and then doing a "dir" on the CD drive. How many
jpgs does it show as being on the CD?

For the second issue, where did you get the images that are burned to that
CD? If you have AOL and got them via that service, you might need to turn
off the option to compress graphics. If not, what happens when you copy
that picture to the hard drive and then try to dbl-click it? Does it open
or same error message?

Could be a memory shortage but not likely if you're not running many other
programs and the jpg you're trying to open is not too large. But it could
be a resource issue or a dirty system. You should always make sure you have
the latest Windows updates, run anti-virus scans and spyware scans, and
defrag your drive every now and then.

Thanks,
Gregg Rivers [MSFT]
