Thanks for the help. As it turns out, I found that there was an easier way
through XP, but it wasn't the route described in the help files. I went to
File>Sent To, and selected "mail recipient." Then the box popped up that
enabled us to save the mail messages to a smaller format.

I'm very interested in the program where you provided a link, though,
because it seems that we could select a specific size (instead of just
"original" or "smaller," as via XP). I'm going to try it out and will
install it on my friend's computer if it works well. I already use
ThumbsPlus myself, but I was looking for some free help for her -- and the
program you referenced seems to be freeware.
