Camera connects to PC, but can't view pics

I'm running Windows XP and installed the Canon Solutions Disk (software and
drivers), but when I connect the Canon A510 to my pc, i'm unable to view my
pictures. The Camera Window doesn't launch and when I access the Camera
through Windwos Explorer there is no response. Eventually the camera window
opens, but has no programs to select to viw the pics. Strangely, when I
remove the memory card and re-connect the camera, the Camera Window opens
immediately with a list of programs to select.

I have uninstalled RealPlayer and have successfully connected my camera to a
friend's PC and was able to view the pics so I guess it's not a camera or
Canon software fault.

Any ideas?
