I have not seen the exact issue you describe
but the following info may be useful.....

==============================
You may need to do some editing in your
registry...carefully read the following article
first before proceeding:

Information About Editing the Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256986#Topic2

==============================
".jpg extension may be incorrect in registry"

Go to...Start / Run...

Type in "regedit" (without the quotes)...OK.

In your registry editor...drill down to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)
      (don't change anything...just observe)

Also you might check:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/pjpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)

If the *Extensions* are incorrect, changing them to .jpg
may solve your problem.

To make the change...

Left click "Extension" to select it.

With "Extension" selected...go to...Edit / Modify...

Replace the text in the "Value data" field with
".jpg" (without the quotes)...OK.

Close the registry editor....File / Exit.

I have Microsoft image resizer installed and had used it often in the
past. Lately, however, it does not seem to work. I did notice that
all of my photos have the .jpg extension. I "renamed" one of the
photos by simply changing the extension to a .tif. Then, the resizer
works.

I have tried to run "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" and it said "successfully
completed" but still the image resizer seems only to work on images in
my photo folders that are tif images. Strangly though, if I have a
.jpg image, all I have to do is "change" the extension to .tif, and the
image will open, plus microsoft image resizer will work fine then.

With the .jpg extension, right clicking will bring up the "option" to
resize, but when clicking then on "resize" nothing happens. Only will
work with the .tif.

Any thoughts/suggestions? I could "rename" all my phots with a .tif
extension but that seems a bit drastic.

Thanks for any input.
