To give you an idea.
100 cm is 40 inches.
To print on photo paper, a high quality print requires 300 dpi (dot per
inch). To calculate the dimension you can print, divide the dimension of the
photo in ppi (pixel per inch) by 300.
A typical 5 MP camera will give you a file of the following dimensions: 2560
x 1920 pixels. If you divide each number by 300 you get a print of 8.5 x 6.4
inches.

However, this is a bit deceptive. A larger print will be viewed from a
distance and you can easily double the above size and the print will still
look very good.

The second factor is that, yes, lots of software to enlarge for printing.
All commercial printers use this to produce great prints, but there is
obviously a limit. So, I would discuss the project will the commercial
printer you want to select to print at the sizes you want and see what they
recommend depending upon the printer and software they have and the paper
(or other surfaces) you want to print on. They probably have some samples
they can show you.
