    It sounds like you have already identified the problem!
    First, check to see that BIOS has the USB Ports enabled.
    Next, if ports were enabled, in safe mode, remove the USB Port drivers from
    Device manager. A reboot should cause them to be reinstalled. Finally, some
    MBDs hav a chip set that requires add in drivers for such things as the USB
    ports. (VIA chipsets as an example) If the computer case has front panel USB
    ports that you are trying to use, make sure that the internal cables are
    connected properly to the MBD.
