Card Reader

I am trying to get photo's off a card reader. When I first plugged the card reader into the USB XP installed the driver. I also have the option of Safely Removing the Hardward, but I cannot find the card reader drive anywhere on my computer, therefore am not able to get the photo's off. Please help!! FAST!!
