Many thanks for that solution Yves,
I have been trying to fix this for a couple of weeks now and getting nowhere
there does'nt seem to be any reference to it within the XP helpfiles and no
obvious way of fixing using file associations or whatever. I have no idea what
causes it. Is it a virus thing or a bug?
cheers
Fraser

In IE 6, click on Tools on your top bar and Internet options. A window will
open. Click on Delete files button in the middle of this window. Then, click
on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to Security and check the box "Empty...."
This will solve and prevent this problem.
