Here's a link to your User Guide.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bph08796.pdf
Pages 92 to 94 seem relevant. These pages are slightly different in the
Guide itself.
The pages come under the heading System Recovery.
This is the most relelevant on the basis that you have recovery disks.
Your reply was silent regarding my question.
Full System Recovery: This recovery function completely erases and
reformats the hard disk drive. The program performs a full System
Recovery
to reinstall the operating system, programs, and drivers from the
recovery
discs. However, you must reinstall any software that was not installed
on the
PC at the factory. This includes software that came on CDs included in
the PC
accessory box, and software programs you installed since your purchase.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry:
Sorry for hijacking, this is the first time I have ever posted and
didnt know the rules, I just saw that someone else had the same sort
of problem. Anyway I will try to explain as clearly as I can as to
what happened. P.S. Thanks so much for the help you are giving us.
The computer ( HP Pavilion al 340 n ) with windows xp was working
fine last night and froze. My son turned it off and restarted it.
When restarting it goes to the boot menu, we tried to start in
windows normally ... it goes back to the reboot menu, so we tried to
start in safe mode and that is when the error " Stop : c0000218
Registry file failure. The registry cannot load the hive file System
Root\System 32\Config\Software or its log or alternate It is
corrupt, absent, or not writable Beginning dump of physical memory"
comes up. We have also tried to start with the last known
configuration option and it also goes to the boot menu. There is no
real important files that we would need to recover, he just uses it
for homework, etc. I have acces to my laptop which is Aspire
7720-6208 with windows xp as well.
Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Karen

Next time you need to open a new thread and not hijack one started by
someone else.
To answer your question more information is needed.
What model is your HP Pavillion?
What exactly do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?
Do you have important data files you need to recover?
Do you have access to a second computer? What is that computer make
and model?
What have you tried so far?
Can you please post a complete copy of the Stop Error report?
Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing
the F8 key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic
restart on system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on
system failure. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Hello:
I am receiving the same error as a previous person posted.(The

) Suggestions were given for them, they have a dell system. I have
a HP Pavillion running on windows xp and wondering if someone could
tell me how to restore the system.
Thank you in advance for help that may be given.
