I use this HD in NAS enclosure as a STORAGE for our home computers (2x XP
Pro, one Vista and one MAC).
it was attached thru USB to a Linksys WRT350N router, also set for FTP,
got slow latelly from all reading-writing (pictures, movies, programs and
games backups and so on),
no other way but re-connected last night to one PC (XP Pro) to defragment,
to get some time untill buy one more HD, needed more space anyway,
morning only 1% was done, not sure what it did overnight, so I stopped the
defragmenter !!! and load the check disk, after several minutes came back,
not moving at all, than
I disconnect the USB and shut down both the HD and the PC
when I boot next first time,
the PC can see the drive, recognise the model (probably reading the HD
firmware), but
data corrupted, no more folder list at all (probably it was reading the
beginning of the disc at the moment when I shut it down!)
the HD lost the file system, no NTFS anymore..
is there any DIY type of utility program what might help recover things from
that drive? taking it to the Pro's is not an option, $$ not the best latelly.
thanks
.
