I had previously checked the event viewer and found that the ati video was
having issues, so I updated the drivers via Windows Update and that issue
appears to be gone.
I have been told that some milk had been spilled on the keyboard at one
time, but this laptop seems to be working fine, but I have not cracked the
case to check to see if any had penetrated through to the motherboard.
Thank your for your assistance.

What errors appear in Event Viewer?
Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer relating to the last boot in
normal mode . No Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate
which also appear in a previous boot.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I should have also noted that I am running XP Home sp3.

Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion dv5000 computer with 1GB RAM. When I boot up the
computer, it takes anywhere from 5 - 7 minutes to get to the login
prompt. I have cleaned up what I can with msconfig, though many of
those items haven't started up at this point.
I am also running bootvis to try to optimize the startup of the
computer. It has crashed the OS a few times already so this is a
very slow process.
Any suggestions on how I can proceed to determine what is making
this system boot so slowly?
TIA.
Rich.
