Why is my computer slow in the morning after a night on standby. During the

It sounds like you have some kind of antivirus running and maybe a LOT
of files. There are lots of different 'places' to clea up different
areas on your hard drive.
You might want to check for errors first.
Start>MyComputer>right-click your C drive>Properties>Tools>Check Now
You might not be able to fix anything, if there is an error, but if
there is NO errors, continue. Close My Computer
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup - Temporary
Internet Files, Temporary Files, Recycle Bin, all dumping grounds. I'd
check these once a month or so.
From your Browser, Tools>Internet Options> Browsing Histsory - If you
know your passwors and don't need them for once, I'd 'Delete All' Then
click 'Settings'. Use something like 64mb for ;Disk Space' to reserve
for temporary files. The faster your internet connection, the smaller
this can be. (Your computer can download that 16k picture faster than
your computer can find it in a 1 gb cache)
Then, one I just found, another dumping ground:
Start>Control Panel>Java>General>Temporary Internet Files>Settings>
This will probably be up to the max setting, hogging as much hard-
drive as it can. I delete all the files, and set it to something more
rational like 256mb.
Another one:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Restore> >Restore Settings (on
the left) This will probably be cranked up to the max too. 3 gigs
should be plenty.
You will likely gain a Whole lot of hard drive space doing this. The
next time you visit your web pages, it might take a bit linger the
first time, allowing pictures to be downloaded and stored in cache.
The next time will be much faster.

If everything is working well, except for being slow, this should
speed things up. There are without exagerating Billions of files in
compressed files, etc, that antivirus will scan Every time the
computer is started, which is stupid IMNSHO. I use Hibernate all the
time. I rarely Shut Down. If your on a network, Start>Log Off first
before hibernating. You might have to tern on Hibernating option in:
Start>Control Panel>Power Options>Hibernate. This only gives you the
extra hibernate button when you go to Shut Down.
I'm confident this will help the majority of users computers, but it's
probably not going to 'fix' much, except maybe Java junk.
Take Care!
