Re: Error when uninstalling Legos Star Wars Video Game Screensaver

It's not unusual for a program to fail to uninstall. It can happen for reasons that have nothing to do with the user.

The usual remedy is to re-install the program, restart your computer, uninstall the program and restart your computer again. Re-installing the program restores whatever caused the original uninstall to fail.

These days you typically need to temporarily disable your security software while installing or uninstalling software.

There are more advanced steps to follow if the above also fails to remove the program, but start with the easy fix first.

My son installed from somewhere the Legos Star Wars Video Game Screen Saver. It shows up in both the list of programs in the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel dialog and also as an option in the "ScreenSaver" tab of the "Display" control panel. In the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, it says it is occupying over 800 MB of space. If I try to either select it from the "Display" control panel as the active screen saver or remove it with the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, a dialog box pops up that basically says "Error: swflash.ocx not found" or some perturbation of that. There is such a file on the computer, but don't remember where.

I'd like to get rid of this program because it doesn't work and it is consuming a lot of disk space. However, I am stymied by the above error. Does anyone have any idea how to remove this? I don't know where files associated with screen savers are kept so can't manually trash them and would prefer to do an uninstall to get rid of registry entries, etc.

Thanks in advance.
