So, it will still allow me to install SP2 again, after the reinstallation, is
that correct?

My XP Home has become corrupted over time.
I have updated it from SP1 to SP2...via the Windows Update website.

Now Windows Update is saying that it will support only SP2.
I have a legitimate (legal) WindowsXP, SP1.
If I completely re-install of XP, back to SP1, do I lose all rights to use
the Windows Update Site (since I will be using SP1 again)?

YES! But I would download the Service Pack 2 from Microsoft's web site
and then "slipstream" SP2 into you "original" XP CD. Slipstreaming is
a process that Microsoft's permits "users" of adding Service Pack into
their install CDs, which will give you a new install CD with the
service pack already installed. If you have problems slipstreaming,
look at tools which will help you to do the slipstreaming, such as
AutoStreamer (???)

Also, Service Pack 3 is about to be released (any day now???) but
should only be used once it is "released" to the general users (via
Windows Updates.)
