My dad had a drive go belly up on him recently. He took the drive to
best buy where the techs used some program to get the data off the
failed drive and then back it up to CD, DVD or in his case another HD.
I imagine the backup medium depends on the amount they are able to
recover.
Question:
What tools / utilities allow these type of disk data recoveries?
Can anybody recommend any either open source or commercial?
How successfull are they with regard to percentage of disk recovered
(i guess that all depends on what the disk problem is)?
my dad was concerned about the privacy of his data by taking it to a
third party. If i had access to the program or tool, i'm sure i
could have done this easily enough myself.
thanks
One I have used with sucess is PC Inspector File Recovery from
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm
