Re: Hard drive appears to be continualy running

Hi Gerry, thanks for assistance.

I have re chanked info from task manager and System Idle Process is showing
between 90-98% but still the cpu usage listing under it shows CPU useage at
between 40-50%.

I regards to other questinons-

Commit Charge- Total, 757248 Limit, 2519668 Peak, 840728

Hard Drive 55 GB total size, 34 Gb used 32 Gb free

CPU- Intel Centino Duo each @ 1.83 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM

ALso when i go to tak manager under the performance tab there are two graphs
which I assume are fopr each of the processor performances. One is running at
almost 100% and the other at virtually nothing.

Have tried all other suggestions re disk clean, defrag etc. but problem
still exists. I have also tried ADAWARE and SPYBOT scans and they also show
nothing.

ANy Suggestions? and thanks for your help

Cheers

Wayne

The information you are providing from Task Manager needs to be
rechecked. If System Idle shows CPU at 96% then other processes can only
total 4% not 40-60%!

Try running Disk CleanUp in all user profiles.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard disk and how much free space. Right click on
your C drive in Windows and select Properties to get this information.

What is your CPU processor speed? How much RAM memory? Right click on
your My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get
this information.

Hope this helps.

I have been running Windows XP on my laptop for over a year with no
problems. Have had up to date antivirus and spyware software running
but all of a sudden everything has slowed down and my hard drive
light appears to be on the whole time. I Have tried antivirus/spyware
scans, defrag etc. but appears to make no difference.

Have opened up task manager and it show the system idle process at
about 96% but below this shows CPU usage at around 40-60%. No other
processes are shown to be running. Any thoughts or help ?
