Re: IE7 Steals Focus, Controls Computer....

Does the problem still occur when you run Internet Explorer 7 in 'No Add-ons' mode? (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons))? If not, identify the problematic add-on and either remove it or get a version that's compatible with IE 7.

If the problem still occurs even with no add-ons, thoroughly scan your system for malware and remove what you find. Try several online scanners to be sure you are getting everything. HiJack This will be your last resort.

I have an XP Home SP2 box with a 2.2ghz celeron on .5 GIG RAM and an 82GIG hard drive. EVERYTIME I load up IE7 it "steals focus", meaning it insists on attention, taking me back again and again to its window when I'm working in something else, like Word for instance. In addition, if I leave the computer alone for a moment something takes over and there is a tremendous amount of disc activity, the system freezes, I get "app not responding" messages...until the disc activity completes. How do I get control of IE 7 short of deleting it and going with an alternate web browser?
