Re: Boot & reboot after POST+ blue screen

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

To get the computer to halt when a blue screen is displayed, use this method:

Right-click on "My Computer" (either on Start Menu or on desktop) and choose "Properties"

Go to "Advanced" tab and click "Settings" under 'Startup and Recovery'

Clear the checkbox "Automatically Restart" under 'System Failure'

"OK" your way out

Then, the next time you get a Blue Screen (Blue Screen of Death - or BSOD) your computer will halt and you can write down all the information.

I have decided to reformat HD and start a fresh installation of XP. I think some of the updates may have conflict with other applications and caused the problem. I'll just start over.
Thanks for all the help. It was good advice...just didn't solve my problem.

Another way of seeing the problem is by using a camera. If you keep taking photos of the screen as it switches on (Switch the flash off) sometimes, you will get a picture of he blue screen.

Then you can zoom the photo in and read the message.

If your camera has a Sport mode (Takes 10 photos at a time) then use that at boot-up.

Keep trying, my friend. The trick is to rapidly tap the F8 key as soon as your computer starts until you can bring up the boot options screen. The other choice is to erase your hard drive and start again, so hone your key tapping technique.

Leonard,
Thanks for the reply. However I can't boot to Safe Mode. Try as I might I can't get the blue screen to stay up log enough to read the error message. I have tried disable reboot on failure and still no luck. "Leonard Grey" wrote:

Hi Wayne:

You need to find out what is causing the problem. Here's how:

Boot into Safe Mode. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery - 'Settings' button > in the System Failure area remove the checkmark from 'Automatically restart' > restart your computer.

Now your computer will 'crash' and display a blue screen. Post back with the name of the STOP error. It looks sort of like this:

STOP 0x000... ERROR_NAME

Someone will look up the error for you, or you can find it yourself here:

Whenever I boot my computer running XP+SP2, it start up, goes through POST, briefly displays a blue screen the reboots again. This process continues in a cycle until the computer is shut down manually. Any ideas??
