Re: Computer won't boot

It sounds like the hard drive.

Try a new installation of XP on the hard drive, and format it to NTFS (Quick).

If you have no luck, you will have to get a new hard drive.

I have a computer running Win XP Pro that all of a sudden won't start up. I
am getting many different error messages while it's starting up. They
include something about a disk read error and push ctrl+alt+del to reboot,
windows could not load because some file is missing, select the correct drive
or insert the disk into the selected drive to start up, etc. I get only one
of these messages each time I try to reboot. My computer was also making
some odd sounds that I've never heard before. They were like buzzing or
humming sounds. So, I'm wondering if the hard drive is failing? I could get
it to fully start a couple times, but each time there was something that
wasn't working properly--internet didn't work, or mouse and other usb
peripherals didn't work but the keyboard did, etc. So, that makes me wonder
if it's the motherboard. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas what I
should do. Thanks for the help.
