Re: cd and dvd gone after clean install of xp

I triple checked the drivers and they are correct. the device manager says
that the devices are not working correctly because the drivers are not
installed or are incorrect. The drivers are correct. Why would Windows
recognize them as something else? I could understand the dvd, maybe, but the
cdrw? That is not some bit of new technology. The H-L Data Storage driver I
got from driverguide. The Hitachi site had drivers for the 8161 and the 8163.
It has got to be more than just drivers.

Also, does it say on the Device Manager that the drivers are not installed,.
or something else?
I think that Windows is recognizing it as something, I'm just not sure what.

The last thing to check is that you have the CORRECT drivers, and check
that they are on the HCL.
Did you download the drivers from these sites? If not, then try and
install these:
Samsung cdrw sw-248:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/productsupport/download/query.aspx?keyword=sw-248 .
Do you have the SW-248B or SW-248F? Download the CORRECT one and try
again.
H-L Data Storate dvd rom gdr-8162B:
The only sites I find when on google are your posts on other sites. I got
to LG, who will not give drivers. Are you sure this is spelt correctly?

Hi, sorry it took so long to respond.
Yes, Windows just will not see the drives as other than unknown. I am
past
wit's end on this one and the owner is more than peeved. It seems like
every
fix out there is bust.
Anything new? Anyone?
Thanks

And Windows still detects it as unknown?

I have disconnected them, reconnected and rebooted. I have connected
them
one
at a time and tried to install the drivers. I have uninstalled and had
the
device manager check for changes. I just came back from the guy's
house
and
they still will not work. The boot process is cd>floppy>hd and if I
remove
the hard drive and insert another the cd's are seen. I tried to load
up
ANOTHER installation on the original hard drive and got inaccessible
boot
device. Currently XP is running on an older 6gb drive and the larger
80gb(the
one that will not take 2000 or xp) is being used for storage. The
kicker
is
that the 80gb was working fine, as were the cd and dvd drives, until
the
installation. I was even working over the phone while on vacation in
the
hope
that something would work. No such luck.

Or try right-clicking the unknown devices and uninstall them. Then
restart.
It should ask for the drivers. Install them. If it doesn't ask,
right-click
then update drivers and then follow the wizard.

Have you tried shutting down the pc, opening the case, physically
disconnecting then reconnecting the drives, then power back up?

| Additionally, to add insult to injury, the cd and dvd drives show
up
during
| post, are NOT in the cmos and are listed in device manager as
unknown
| devices. The downloaded drivers have no effect.
|
| This has been going on three weeks now. Any ideas?

| Thanks again
