Thanks for replying - Ya, I had numerous conversations with Norton and
Ghost, and could not find a solution. I need to get back to them, but time
consuming.
How do I do enable the Volume Shadow Service.....?
Thanks again!

Hi Richard:
For questions on Norton Ghost you'll need to ask Symantec.
To backup your entire computer you really want a disk image. Windows
Backup is not the same thing.
In order to backup files in use with Windows Backup you need to enable the
Volume Shadow service.
FWIW I use and recommend Acronis True Image 10. It's a very flexible
program and comes with great support.

Hi - I've been trying to backup/image my computer, the C: Drive, and keep
getting errors. I have an external Hard Drive (drive F:) which is bigger
than my C: drive, so should not be any problem there - both NTFS. I've
tried a couple of versions of Ghost and it always aborts just after
starting. Recently I was trying the Windows XP version of backing up
"All information on this computer", and it aborts after running for a few
minutes - actually, the last time I ran it, it was 4 minutes and 12
seconds in. Here is the error: "The backup could not be completed due
to an error". Looking at the "Report Log", it says several times that it
was unable to open files in the Temporary Internet File folder but seems
to continue. Well, yes I have tried deleting all of those before hand.
The last error reported is:
"Could not access portions of directory System State\Registry.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator."
I have permissions set to "Everyone" on the C: Drive,
I'm attached to a cable modem, which I have tried both leaving that on
and turning it off, with no change in results. It seems there is some
kind of file(s) that I have or some sort of configuration or something
that is blocking any attempt to do this. It is also a Dell Dimension
8400, which I have had problems with in other ways.
So there you have it! Any help would be appreciated and thank you!
