At installation it was SP1a, therefore, this is what my XP CD has.
I downloaded SP2 online.
Would it help the more knowledgeable out there to give me some guidance if I
describe what I was doing when the problem first arose?
My Norton Internet Security had lapsed. I purchased a license that
permitted installation on three computers rather than simply renew through my
expiring software. I attempted to install the application from the CD. The
process seemed to be nearing completion when the computer gave me the blue
screen of death, I mean the bad pool header stop error message. :-)
If there is some more helpful information, feel free to ask! :)

You could try disconnecting all peripheral connected , except
keyboard, mouse and monitor and see if it will boot.
What is the computer make and model?
What version of Windows XP do you have? Does your Windows XP CD
include the SP2 update or did you install SP2 from the free special
SP2 CDs distributed by Microsoft in 2004 or download SP2?

I recently installed Norton Int. Security 2007 on both my Dell Dimension 8200
and my Dell Inspiron 6000. The following occurred in both units:
Install went fine and NIS 2007 functioned properly. However, when I inserted
a data disk into my CD/RW drive to update some files, the disk began to boot,
then the infamous BSOD with a BAD_POOL_HEADER error message.
After many discussions with Dell and Symantic via chat support and
telephone, the best advice followed from Symantic Technical Support. I have
copied and pasted it below. Apparently, NIS 2007 needs to boot before Sonic
RecordNow. I guess they were both starting at the same time, thus the
conflict?

I understand from your message that you are not able to write CDs using your
Sonic RecordNow software with Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2007 installed.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this issue may have caused
to you and thank you for your patience. Please note that, this is not a
common issue that has been reported to Symantec. This issue could occur due
to conflict with any other program installed in your computer. To verify
this, please enable only Windows and Symantec services at startup and check
for the issue.

If the issue gets resolved, then follow the instructions below to find which
program is causing the issue.
Please follow the steps provided below to find out any timing conflicts
between the Symantec files and other files loading at the Windows startup:
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Type msconfig and then click OK.
4. The System Configuration Utility appears. Click the Startup tab.
5. Uncheck all the entries other than those related to Symantec. Symantec
programs can easily be identified, as the words "Norton" or "Symantec" will
appear in the path for that file. (You will have to use the scroll arrows at
the bottom of the dialog box to see this.)
6. When you are finished, click Apply, and then click OK.
7. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
8. After restarting the computer, please check if the issue persists. If
not, then repeat the above steps and in the Startup tab, select five more
programs and restart. Check if you get the error message. Follow the
processes again and select another five programs.
9. If you receive the error message, then you may need to follow the same
procedure on individual programs in the set of five programs in which you
found the error.

I followed the instructions and my Inspiron 6000 seems to be working OK now.
I have not attempted the process with the Dimension 8200 yet. There are other
issues (I may be doing a clean reinstall of Windows XP soon.)
