I get the following message upon boot up: "administrator has
prohibited access to cd/dvd
rom drive". I've checked the relevent registry keys, dowloaded
TweakUI and used that, but nothing I do will restore access to the
machine's CD or DVD drives and yes, I'm loged on as a
administrator. Logging on as the default administrator did nothing
for me either.. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kindly respond here as there are others who are having this
problem and could benefit from the answer. Thanks.

Start button --> RUN --> secpol.msc --> OK
Look through the Devices: policies... report back on their settings.

Thanks, but I've already been through all that ( saw an earlier message
you posted :) ), the policies are set to allow access to all users, any
other ideas?? This is really annoying, I've never seen anything like
this before. It occured immediately after installing IE 7, but I can't
imagine that would have anything to do with it ... heh, optimisitc
ain't I ... but, one never knows. I'm trying to avoid reformating and
re-installing this system and all the software I've got on it.
