What is the make and model of your computer and when was it purchased
new?
It is a Dell Dimension 3000
Third party drivers are those from sources other than Microsoft.
Hardware e.g. a printer will come with software including drivers on a
CD disk. No doubt you reinstalled this software when you reinstalled
Windows XP but invariably the software becomes out of date. Sometimes
there are bugs in the original software and sometimes the software is
out of date at the time of purchase. The hardware manufacturer will
usually provide software and driver updates on their website, which
are available at no cost to the user. To obtain these updates,
however, you need to have precise information as to the make and model
numbers to ensure the correct update.
Yes, all third party drivers were installed.
This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about
your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is
fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.
There are a number of ways to check which drivers need updating.
However, it helps to know background information regarding the
computer before deciding how best to proceed. My questions above are
directed towards this objective. It would help to know which version
of Windows XP you have ie, Home Edition, Professional or another. Also
does your Windows XP CD include the SP2 update or is it a pre SP2 CD?
If a pre SP2 CD did you download SP2 from Microsoft or use an SP2 CD
to install the SP2 update?
I have Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. SP2 came on the
WinXP OS CD.

Hope this helps.
