You are correct that the System Idle Process is what your processor is doing when it's idle. (It's the CPU's equivalent of twiddling your thumbs.)
Neither your virus scanner nor your firewall will detect the presence of spyware. You need a specialized spyware scanner to do that. Actually, you need several, since spyware is often very tough to pin down.
You need to install anti-spyware software. But for now, try this online scanner:

Hey.
The problem Ihave is that windows seems to every minuet or so to hang, or freeze for a second or so then will work fine. This includes the mouse and keyboard to stop responding, audio and video to cut out etc.. I have checked in the task manager with the system at a standstill. It seems to show the processor to max out to 100% usage. This seems to have no effect on any processes which are running as all there levels remain as zero. apart from the system idle process which may drop to 98%, (I'm presuming the system idle is when the system is at a standstill).
At first I presumed it would be spyware or a virus, but my firewall, and virus scanners show the system is clean.
has anybody one had this problem? or know any solutions I would be very grateful for some help and advice, Thank you for your time Jonny
