Re: Multiple problems - registry???

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Here's something (else) I learned the hard way: If you remove fonts that EMC 7 needs, EMC will try to re-install them. You'll see the 'preparing to install' message box and hot da*n...the fonts are back. Not a Windows problem - it's EMC that's doing it.

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility may address your other problems:

1. I recently installed Suitcase for Windows (extensis.com) font manager. For Suitcase to manage my numerous fonts, they must be removed from the Windows font folder. I've removed all but the ones Windows needs to operate to another file, but they keep coming back - not all of the fonts, but many of them. I delete them and even empty the Recycle Bin, but later on, I look at the Windows font folder, and there are the deleted ones again! I talked to Extensis tech support, and was told this was a Windows problem.

2. Every time I open Outlook and click on anything (Inbox, new message, etc.), the Windows Installer starts up to try to install Office 2003 (already installed, of course) - very annoying b/c I can't do anything else until the installer stops. The Windows Installer would also want to install Roxio Creator 7 (already installed, of course) until I got fed up with that and uninstalled that program.

3. Another program I use - Printing Pro Extreme - seems to uninstall itself, b/c every time I click on it from its shortcut (it doesn't even appear in the program list) the Windows Installer pops up again, eventually asks for the program CD.

I use TrendMicro for virus protection and keep it updated. I use SpyStopper, too. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Someone replied to my question about Outlook, from that newsgroup, and suggested there was a corrupt registry kety, but I'm leary of registry cleaners, per what I've read in this newsgroup. Please help!
