HELP please..task manager lag issues


* hope I am posting this in the right forum*

I have a custom built P4 512 Ram and (I think) raedon 9800 video card.

(I am not very computer saavy when it comes to computer parts)

I m not using all of memory space.

My issue is this:
I go to college online so I have programs installed such as
microsoft office, outlook express and adobe reader.
I also play world of warcraft (mmporpg)

I lag constantly in and out of the game. I have defragged often and
run adaware, spybot and housecall. I also have AVAST antivirus and Zone
Alarm Firewall.

Very often I go to my task manager and see i have 30-35 processes
running and I end all the ones with my user name besides the
antivirus,firewall and explorer hoping to help it run faster.
It really doesnt help much. I wanted to know what system processes
are safe to end.

or do I just need a new computer?
