I followed your instr. my "lost slave drive" is still lost. The BIOS cannot find it either. Why this sudden loss?

In any case, open XP's Disk Management snap-in (Start > Run > type: diskmgmt.msc > OK). Do you see the drive there? If not, then you somehow deleted it.
