Generic Host Process Error

I have a new Dell E510, one month old. Running XP Pro, SP2, Norton.
Standard programs, Office 2003, Quickbooks, etc, no unnecessary downloads.
Did a full scan. Called Dell, did a full system check, everything checked
out fine. When we get to the desktop errors pop up and machine becomes
unresponsive. The first error box is
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" and the second box is
"svchost.exe - Application Error.
Any ideas what we can do short of restoring the complete machine? By the
way I did try go back a week to a restore point but that failed.

Tim
