To resolve the problem, I did a System Restore to a restore point
that my pc made yesterday. My pc works fine and fast again and I
turned off Automatic Updates until the problem gets resolved. I
have a number of other anti-virus/worm/spyware/malware/grayware
programs and Sygate firewall running so I'm not concerned about a
virus that will probably not attack my pc. If someone comes up
with a better solution, I'd like to hear it.

I posted a message in WIndows XP General. I was surfing the
internet on AOL while the PC was updating, allowed it to restart
for the changes to take effect, and immediately after, I can no
longer connect to the internet on that machine.

Certainly would want to know what's going on.

This kind of thing happens all the time.(well, maybe not ALL the
time,just a couple times a year)
I have an XPSP2pro(which I use for testing) that I update first
before updating my work pc(they are identical).
My best advice to both of you is found on my pages(see below).

The CrapCleaner site said
that the program is free but after it ran, I received a message that
said that I had to pay for it in order for it to remove the few
errors that it found.

Again, thanks for your help . . . it was very much appreciated.
