While trying to uninstall Antivirus software and install another updated
version some files have become corrupted. As soon as I open Windows (XP Home)
I get the window Run Time Error ?File ?53 Not Found?, then Run Time Error
?File ?70 Access Denied?
Have tried System Restore but the system will not restore to any point
whatsoever!! Great!
Have tried to run ?regedit? but the file listings will not open and stay on
screen so that I can make changes. Going from bad to worse!
Am getting exasperated!!
Any ideas from anyone gratefully accepted
The problem with Regedit is one that is associated with an infestation
by several different viruses/trojans. What happens if you use Start
- Run - MSCONFIG? Does that also close immediately? That would tend
to confirm that your computer is infested.
Try going to one of the following free online scanning sites and doing
a check of your computer there. If your computer crashes during the
online scan try rebooting to "Safe Mode with Networking" and then
doing the scan again.
Bit Defender http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com
Good luck
