If you used the restore disks I have a feeling that they are somehow bad. If
you used a straight copy of WinXP then something isn't right, if the hard
drive was repartitioned and reformatted.
Go into the BIOS and see if caching and shadowing are enabled, if so,
disable them, save and exit. Restart (Ctrl-Alt-Delete), go to BIOS to see if
the settings are as you left them, if so install a straight version of WinXP;
if not you need a new battery to hold CMOS - battery is dead.

not use their discs. It is also not known if the eMachine CDs are any good
(maybe corrupt). I would install a straight copy of Windows XP and see if
that works, or buy another computer.

All I have is the eMachine restore CDs and the 6 XP Home boot disks. I do
not know the procedure to use the boot disks to delete the partition and

If the system was having the described problems before trying a restore,
then you may have a hardware problem. Before installing Windows, unplug and
plug in every cable, remove and reinsert all add-in cards, remove and reseat
the memory modules. You might consider removing and reseating the CPU - but
you will need a thermal patch or compound to reinstall the CPU heatsink.
When installing Windows do not have any unnecessary peripherals attached USB
or other, install those after a successful install of Windows.

If this does not work, any other suggestions? Further, is there any truth to
there being a restriction on eMachines if the original hardware has been
replaced? I bought the system used so I do not know if that is the case.

Installed restore CDs to start from scratch and started system, but it stoped
at the "safe mode, last good, start normally, etc" page. Each time it
restarts from this page it comes back to this page. If I turn the system off
then on it starts to boot, flashes a blue screen for less than a second with
a message I can't read, then back to the same page. I have performed the
FDISK and reloaded CDs - same result. I have performed the copy (system,
security, sam, ect) from the "boot to command prompt" - same result. What
can I do to fix this logically illogical problem?
