This is driving me nuts. Windows XP Media Edition has started rebooting
itself without my shutting it down. I had this problem about a year ago and
according to several resources the problem was with a Norton driver that
didn't uninstall when I got rid of that memory hog. I follwed all the
directions and the machine was fine and now it's started up again. HELP!!
After the machine restarts I get the message "Windows stop error. Windows has
encountered an error from which it cannot recover and needs to restart".
Cause: Unknown device driver. It also says it appears on a bsod but I don't
get the blue screen of death every time this happens. Cany anyone here help
me? Please and thanks.
In addition to Glen's suggestion you could also try using Control
Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings button in the
Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.
In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
"automatically restart" to clear it.
That should put an end to the automatic reboots. But you will still
get the BSOD error messages and will have to reboot manually.
Good luck
