What did you ask to do? What did you type here first?

Google for "find and remove multiple copies of identical files".
Simplify it and search for "identify duplicate files".

The first one - using your words, finds things like:

Tools and Utilities :: File Manipulation
http://www.hotscripts.com/Tools_and_Utilities/File_Manipulation/more2.html

Where tools like:
- Duplicate Finder
- Cleaner Kit
- Clone Hunter

Are right there..

Still using your words, the Google search turned up..

Download Shuric Scan 1.68 Free Trial
"Find and Remove TRUE Duplicate files, file portion and same filename"

and

File Find & Compare Utilities
http://www.filebasket.com/category.php%5Bid%5D108%5BSiteID%5Dfilebasket

Where there are multiple pages of such utilities and file manipulation
tools.

If you don't find what you wanted at first - try modifying your words, being
more specific if you can be - see what did not work and add accordingly
using common sense. If one phrase found more applications that actually
duplicate or backup files, try to find a synonym of some of your words that
would push you towards more of "finding and eliminating duplicate files on
your Windows PC".

Which one is better? Luckily you will start finding sites like some of the
ones I already showed you - with RATING systems! Go by what other people
have rated it - see how many have rated it - etc. One good place to search
for applications of any type is http://www.betanews.com. Try there. Try
"NoNags" at http://www.nonags.com/mirrors.html. Try "TuCows" at
http://www.tucows.com. Try CNet's Download.com (http://www.download.com/).
Then you can search just those sites instead of searching Google first -
although searching google and really looking for yourself would have brought
you to these sites eventually..

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

I'd love to tell you that "Such and Such is Fantastic - only use that
application", but the truth is - what's good for me may be horrible for you
because I only speak German and translated all the above to english for
you.. Or I am a visual person and you are not.. Or I like programs that let
me change the look and feel of them and you just want something that works..
Or I just want to get rid of files with the same name and you want to get
rid of files that are TRULY duplicates.
