I have something very similar and this is what I found.

we have 2 users on our dell computer (4400) with win xp, upgraded to sp2.
we have 2 user profiles beyond the guest profile.
since 10/22, we must have dowloaded a virus (despite using an updated norton
antivirus and doing a full scan every 2 days).

what happens is that on one of the accounts, a background process runs.
e.g., nut.exe, iisjava.exe,...we've had multiple names. all files are 799k
large, emerge in random subdirectories under c:\windows\.... They also leave
a signature in the c:\windows\prefetch folder.

iyou can identofy the file(s) by launching the windows task manager
(ctrl-alt-del and select processes) and rank the processes by cpu time. it
should be #2 or 3 on the list and consume high amounts of memory. if you're
not sure if the file is legit or not, do a search on the support and search
portal that comes with your computer or check some websites that have
descriptions for each exe-file.

f you cancel the process with the windows task manager, the file will
reappear nearly immediately. The only way to stop these (temporarily) is to
go to the other user profile, search for recent exe files of size 799k and to
remove these. I also clear my entire prefetch folder.

despite all this and playing around with msconfig (amnd only starting with
what I think is a minimum set of legitimate files the problem persists and
.exe files keep on returining slowing my pc desperately down.

Any advise??
