I have been having difficulty starting up my computer
lately, and have had to shut the power off and reboot as
many as 3-4 times before it will boot up properly. I get
to my desktop, but then it freezes with no error message
other than my firewall saying it was shut down incorrectly
after the first power down. I even tried letting it sit
for awhile after booting attempt before trying anything,
but as soon as I click on any icon, the timer comes on and
basically freezes up. I have a Selective Startup of:
Process SYSTEM.INI File, process WIN.INI File, Load System
Services, Load Startup Items [NVCpl, McUpdate, McAgent,
mcmnhdlr, mcvsshld, winpatrol, Freedom-my hardware
firewall], and Use Original BOOT.INI
Also, I have a number (67 to be exact) of deselected
startup items that I would love to delete, but don't know
how to.
One other issue, I occasionally get a NT ON-ACCESS Scanner
Service error message, which I'm not sure is related. I
have updated McAfee virus, Freedom Firewall, old Norton
still active, and regularly run Ad-aware and Spybot. My
kids have had Kazaa and LimeWire in the past.
