My husband just installed the XP SP2 and now has 3 specific problems. He's
running ZoneAlarmPro, McAffe VirusScanCorporate, and has run SpyBot recently
with no problems. After installing the SP, we disabled the new XP firewall.
We have a wireless network with a cable connection.
Here are his problems following the update (he had none of the symptoms
prior):
1. When he uses IE, 50% of the time when he tries to connect to a page, he
gets an error that he is offline, when he clicks "connect" it sends him to an
old dialup setting that we use when we visit my mom. Then it starts to dial.
He cancels the dialing, and the page loads.
2. When using Mozilla (he even updated the browser to see if that would
help), he often gets the following error when trying to read pages: Cannot
Load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for
this connection. And the page won't load. If he tries the page again later,
it loads.
3. He's had his messaging programs (WinMessenger, Yahoo) become disconnected
unexpectedly, and when he tries to log on again, the servers cannot be found.
Again, he's had _none_ of these problems before and they seem to be
intermittant. I can't find references on microsoft.com and other bulletins. I
assume I need to disable some other new networking setting, but am not sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Michelle
