The System File Checker scans your Windows installation, looking for
essential system files that are changed, damaged or missing. When it finds
such a file it retrieves a fresh copy from your Windows installation CD
To use the System File Checker, go to Start > Run and type this in the text
box:
sfc /scannow
then click OK. You'll need to have your Windows XP installation CD.
