you haven't stated what audio subsystem (card) is in your computer, but i
recommend you visit that vendor's website to download the latest windows xp
drivers for the audio card in your system.

as for the directx drivers, you can obtain the latest ones from microsoft,
go to the address below, click on the Download link/button on the right of
the page, choose Open/Run on the file download dialogue, the web installer
for directx will then contact the microsoft site to determine what
components are needed for your computer, download and install them (a
restart is required).

get the latest directx drivers from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en

then download/install the latest drivers for the audio card in your system
