Hey Gerry,
Just to give a little more background, I'm running the
same NAV and ZA firewall on my own 2 PCs, my mother's,
and my cousin's. The PC that has a problem belongs to my
sister-in-law who is overseas (the PC is overseas as
well). This PC has had this same version of NAV and ZA
firewall running sucessfully, as well. Since I built all
these PCs, I maintain them, as well, because the above
mentioned people who use them are not as comp savy as I
am (I'm a PC tech, anyway).
So, the PC with a problem is overseas and the only access
I have to it is via pcAnywhere, and by over-the-phone
instructions (when the system boots and pcAnywhere cannot
be used).
I know the problem first hand, however, because it
happened while I was physically there few weeks ago. I
made some software upgrades, hardware maintenance, scans,
etc. Everything was perfect until I used BootVis. That's
when the problem occured. Back then I should've used
GoBack to revert, but stupid me, instead, thinking that
maybe GoBack somehow restricted full access for BootVis,
I disabled GoBack and could not revert later on.
Unfortunately I did not have much time after that because
I was flying away the next day and I was hoping the boot
and shutdown would improve automatically via the native
WinXP routine. That didn't happen and hence my problem.
The intenet connection is via cable modem.
I'll disable NAV and ZA and see if theat helps, but I
really doubt this is the problem. The system shows
slowing even when it changes from the Windows boot up
screen to the logon Welcome screen. Ussually there is a
split or 2 second black screen, then the mouse shows and
the Welcome screen. In this case, after the black Windows
boot screen disappears, the monitor is black for about 5
sec, maybe few more, then the mouse shows and the Welcome
screen. The Welcome screen acts fine and Go Back logo
comes right away showing no slowness in loading, but when
you then try to log on, it takes 5 minutes before the
logon screen disappears and the desktop appears. Once the
desktop appears, everything loads moderately quickly.
And then again, most of the time the system just doesn't
want to shut down, or reboot. I just hangs in
the "Shutting down" screen. But occasionally it does shut
down or reboot.
I know it was long and sorry for that, but now you have
all details (at least much more).
