XP won't shut down anymore

Upgraded my older Compaq Presario running Win98 to XP Pro
and I've lost much of my power management. Standby is no
longer an option and the system hangs when shutting down -
sitting at the "Windows is shutting down" screen.

I've run the Windows XP hotfix for system shutdown
problems, ACPI is enabled in the BIOS (although it does
not show up in my System Devices), APM is enabled. Not
sure what else to do. Any suggestions?
