Is this the main drive containing your Windows operating system? How large is the hard drive / partition and how much free space? How is it formatted and what is the cluster size? You can get this information from Disk Defragmenter. You do not need to defragment, The Report provided by running the analysis function gives the relevant information.
Can you also provide the exact text of the error message.
