Microsoft has identified this problem back in August, but
unfortunately they have not posted a solution yet. You
     can see this information at
     http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
     us;823439&Product=winxp

What you might try is to run chkdsk in the Recovery
     Console. See instructions at
     http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
     us;314058&Product=winxp

Follow the instructions included at that same link for
Using the Command Console which is like being in DOS
mode. Type "chkdsk" and hit enter.

This may or may not work but it's all I've got for now.

>When I Re-Boot I go through the initial Bios...then we
have the start up of Window's home XP and at that point
the Window's disk check starts and tells me that we have
a type NTFS file and then gives me the message, "cannot
open file for direct access" and then tells me that the
disk check is finished. This now does this everytime I
boot up. It just started doing it this morning when I
did my weekly maintenance. I ran "Spy Bot" and there was
no spy ware. I did a standard "Disk Clean" and "De-
Frag". I also erased all of my prior set points
for "system restore" prior to this which may now come
back to bite me big time. Thanks for your help!
