Hi,

It seems that there is some problem with hard disk. If chkdsk has found
errors, then you must first take back up of your files. Also I believe, due
to the problem with hard disk there may be corruption with Registry.

You may try to restore registry from backup. I am listing 2 Knowledge base
articles you may use to fix the registry.

How to Recover from a Corrupted Registry That Prevents Windows XP from
Starting
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=322756
HOW TO: Back Up, Edit, and Restore the Registry in Windows XP and Windows
Server 2003
Also you may disable Ultra DMA66 feature of your mother board and try. This
can be done in BIOS. If the hard disk drivers fail it will result in same
kind of problem (error Message).

I am happy to help you. Do let me know your progress on this issue.
