Hi! I really hope some one can help me out with this...
My newest computer (I have two) was rebooting itself and
not allowing me to access Windows XP Pro thru safe mode,
restore last config, or anything. If I disconnect the
ethernet cable, it will log in with a critical error- and
if I connect it back in and try to get on the internet
(cable) it crashes my browsers and/or reboots.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time
had worse problems than now (well so far)... which I just
formatted and restored the hard drive (with my Ghost CDs)
a week ago after it did that. Now I've got access to
Windows after lots of reboots but I don't know for how
much longer it will stay stable- it won't let me use any
restore points. No viruses have been found and nothing
has changed since the last restore... What could be
causing this? And why does it keep on happening?
Any help would really be appreciated! Thanks! :)

[Detailed version of my problem below (very long):]
To start of, I had been away from home for 3 weeks and my
computer was working fine right before I left- it was
also checked for viruses and none were found. On the day
I came back and booted the computer, it would not enter
WinXP and kept on rebooting... it would NOT do safe mode,
restore old settings, nothing at all. I have cable
internet, so I disconnected the ethernet connection,
remembering some viruses can cause rebooting if it is
connected. I don't know if it was coincidental but it
rebooted and entered Windows with a critical error
message.
When I tried plugging the ethernet back in and use the
internet, the internet browsers (both Netscape and IE)
would crash after a minute or so. I couldn't use any
online virus scanners like I usually do because of this,
so I had to download trial & free ones off my old
computer and transfer them over. In the meantime, I used
the online Trend Micro on the old computer (which still
worked) and it found a malware trojan so I
deleted/cleaned it. The virus scanners on the broken
computer found nothing at all.
Next, I tried restoring from Windows Restore... none of
the Checkpoints worked. Finally I gave up and used my
working Ghost backup CDs that I made in January of this
year to reformat and restore the computer. It worked and
I had access to the internet again so I ran the online
Trend Micro on it... It found the same malware trojan as
the old computer! Which means it's somehow on my backup
CDs that didn't have any viruses when I made them or
somewhere on my computer. The most baffling thing is that
this malware wasn't even discovered until March 12,2004-
which was during the time I was on vacation and it's on
my Ghost backup made in January. The malware specs are
here:

Well, this was 6 days ago, and this morning I awoke to
the same rebooting thing all over again. This time
though, after disconnecting the ethernet and reconnecting
I am so far able to stay on the internet. I scanned with
Trend Micro & AVG and no viruses were detected. I'm
hoping it will stay stable and not have to do another
restore. If this isn't caused by a virus, are these
symptoms of hardware failure, system settings, or
something else?
I'm at my wits end and am at a loss of what to do. Any
help would be very appreciated! Thanks! :)
