xp update installing freezes

after several well done updates, the instalation (not
downloading) of new updates (anyone or all of them) from
microsoft ie6 windows updates; freeze on the stage that
says "making file backup" in the details of "making
restore point"

i will appreciate some help on this matter, i like to
keep my xp updated and patched
