Sounds like you may have a dirty fan in there somewhere. If you are a brave
sort, take it apart and clean it inside.

> Hi, I have a Sony Vaio with a P4 processor. If my laptop has been running
for a period of time (over 30 minutes) and I am doing video editing, photo
editing, power point, scanning, printing, or watching a video clip the
machine will just completely shut down (no warnings / no rebooting). In my
opinion the processor is overheating as the back and bottom of the machine
are very hot. The problem first occured a couple of months ago only when
doing something real big like video editing, now lately it seems like it
doesn't take much and down she goes. The fine folks at Sony and Intel have
suggested updating my bios (I am not a computer techny and have no clue as
what to do there).

editing video.
