We had this trouble when we installed some new hardware
that evidently needed a new driver to be compatible.
Since we installed both a new printer and scanner at the
same time, we had to uninstall both hardware pieces and go
to the internet to search for updated/compatible drivers.
If you have installed anything new recently, this could be
your trouble. If you are running windows xp and have
created restore points, you could go back to one before
any changes were made and see if it continues. Ours did
and we ended up reinstalling windows.
