XP home hangs after mup.sys after changing CD drive

Hi all,
I've had to change my CD drive on my machine (the old one packed in), but
when the new drive is connected, the machine hangs on boot sometime after
mup.sys is loaded.

The new drive is correctly recognised as by the BIOS on boot, on the
secondary IDE channel. I've tried setting it to master and slave, with the
same results.

Note that I do not have a functioning CD drive - so cannot use the Windows
XP installation CD to boot! (Although I can share another PC's CD over the
network once booted).

Any suggestions?
